Fetal Life is a healthcare company that provides solutions which holistically offer care throughout the entire pregnancy journey and during the postpartum period by integrating medical devices, telehealth capabilities, data analysis, and artificial intelligence. We aim to provide holistic care through our patented contraction monitoring device, patent-pending fetal heartbeat device, mobile app promoting self-management of health, telemonitoring, and telemedicine platform along with other 3rd party devices. Our devices are affordable, portable, and easy to use. The Fetal Life app currently has over 30,000 users and our recently launched telemonitoring platform already services over hundreds of users. The Fetal Life solution is endorsed by the American Pregnancy Association. Our devices are protected by patent. We are in process of filing FDA 510(k) for the contraction monitoring device.

Founder and President
As a 15-year old freshman at North Oldham High School, Fetal Life Founder and President Riya Shah had an idea. After hearing more than once the story of her mother’s false contractions before her birth, she wanted to create a mobile app to help women measure their contractions and make better informed decisions. Riya is currently a senior in high school. Active in Future Problem Solving and academic science-based competitions but also passionate about art and design, Riya participated in the University of Louisville’s LaunchIt Entrepreneurship Training program and attended the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. She has subsequently filed several additional patents for related medical devices and has raised funding from several angel investors.
Dr. Sara Petruska
MD Medical Consultant
Dr. Sara Petruska is Fetal Life’s Medical Consultant and helps conduct clinical studies for Fetal Life. She holds a Medical Degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stony Brook University Medical Center. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Petruska is affiliated with the University of Louisville Hospital, where she serves as Medical Director of Labor and Delivery. She has been recognized by her peers as a Louisville Top Doc in her field since 2015. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and an active member of American Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
Swati is an entrepreneur herself and also serves as a Managing Member for Fetal Life. She not only manages the finances of the company, but is also responsible for handling all contracts. She works closely with vendors to develop the roadmap for Fetal Life. Swati is also the President of Darsh Consultancy Services and has been instrumental in growing this technology company through her leadership and management skills. Swati holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Mumbai.
Jay Lawson has over 25 years of experience in a variety of medical device and healthcare segments. He has held various leadership positions, most notably, as division President of Stryker Corporation. Jay specializes in the areas of sales, marketing, product development, channel development, and strategic execution. As an entrepreneur, Jay has served as President/CEO of Doctors Research Group, and cofounded many ventures in the healthcare space including Lawson Group (consulting), SurgiCor (distribution), and HealthCor (IT). With a track record of high achievement, accountability, and innovative implementation, Jay brings a broad knowledge base to Fetal Life. Mr. Lawson is an alumnus of Temple University and Harvard Business School.
Dr Robert E. Robbins
M.D. Board Member
Dr. Robert E. Robbins is an investor and Board Member for Fetal Life and is passionate about improving women’s health. He is a retired board-certified surgeon and a successful businessman. He is also the co-founder and chairman of AISA, as well as a venture capitalist and angel investor who has invested in multiple startups, including ZirMed Inc. Dr. Robbins obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky and his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Cincinnati. He completed his residency at the University of Louisville Hospital Group.
Himanshu serves as a Board Member for Fetal Life and is essential in helping the operations of the company run smoothly. He has also served as the Chief Information Officer of Care Innovations, an Intel company, and has led the company’s information technology with product development, integration, mobile development, analytics, quality assurance, support and maintenance, as well as infrastructure and security management. Prior, Himanshu was a technology leader at Humana, managing Pharmacy Technology and clinical applications. He has been instrumental in growing the Humana Pharmacy business to $3.2 billion. Himanshu has been recognized by several organizations for his management skills, team work, and ability to execute and deliver. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Software Technology and a Bachelors in Electronics Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
Bob Saunders acts as Fetal Life’s Advisory Board member. He is a General Partner of OCA Ventures and chairs its healthcare investing activity. He represents OCA on the boards of mPulse, ReGroup Therapy and HealthiPass. He is also a Co-Founder and Chairman of XLerateHealth, a healthcare accelerator in Louisville, KY.
Prior to OCA, Bob was a Senior Managing Director and General Partner at Chrysalis Ventures (Louisville) from 1997 to 2009 and served as a Senior Advisor to Chrysalis from 2009-2010. He was also co-founder of Saunders Murdock and Associates, a life science “super-angel” investor, and a Senior Managing Director at Providian Capital Management from 1993-1997. He began his career in business strategy consulting and worked with both The Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Co.
Over the last 30 years, he has invested in several dozen startup companies and has mentored 100+ startups.
Bob received a B.A. from Stanford University, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and an M.A. from Harvard University. Bob is both a Fulbright Scholar and a Marshall Scholar.
